*** Deconstructing Societal Illusions
It’s time we let go let go of illusions and unfair expectations or else we will continue to live in chaos and confusion.
The biggest trap i have observed lies in society mistaking a byproduct for the purpose of a thing which i will illustrate with 3 examples.
1. Marriage: Not all women will marry a wealthy person. Infact most will not. Wealth can be a byproduct, but the success of the union is not defined by net worth! To call the person who married the richest partner the “most successful female” is a deeply myopic standard.
2. Education: Not all certificate holders will be stupendously rich; that’s not the primary reason for a degree. While education often leads to greater comfort and wider opportunity, confusing academic success with guaranteed exponential wealth is an unclear thinking.
Furthermore, the knowledge gained—like an MBA—is versatile and not limited to starting one’s own business. Most top-tier business degrees study the outcomes of those who never even went to school!
3. Results: Not all outward results or externalities equate true success, true beauty, true intelligence. There are several means to these ends. Do we simply celebrate the ends regardless of the means?
As we grow older, we are given the clarity to look beneath the surface. We must stop letting these shallow illusions dictate our peace, paralyze our potential, or cause us to unfairly frustrate others.
